Numerous scouts have Monroe ranked #1 in the country, and it is easy to see why. The 6’10 forward with a 7’0 wing-span has Kevin Garnett-like upside. He is a great athlete and is very mobile for his size. Only a junior, Monroe already has a polished offensive game and has the moves to dominate down low. He has impressed scouts with his ability to step away from the basket and hit the jumper. He can also handle the ball well for his size and is a good passer. On the defensive size of the ball, he is an intimidating shot blocker and has all the tools to dominate the glass. His biggest weakness at this point is that he plays in spurts. While he has the potential to dominate games, at this point he only dominates part of the game. When Monroe picks up his intensity, he could be the most dominant big man since Greg Oden.
Newsfeed:
12/22/2006 (City of Palms- Ft. Myers, FL)- Monroe was the 7th ranked player in our City of Palms performance rankings: "he is a superstar when he asserts himself."
12/19/2006 (City of Palms- Ft. Myers, FL)- Along with Arizona-bound Jarryd Bayless, Monroe was the day's top performer: "Even with Charlotte doing a superb job of defending the big guy, he still got his. Monroe finished with 21 points (10-15fg), 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. He scored in every way possible including big-time post moves, dribble drives that ended in dunks, and coast-to-coast finishes in transition. One of the very elite players in the 2008 class."
7/15/2006- "Greg Monroe was the HoopsReport.com MVP of the 16u division at Nike Peach Jam after leading the division in scoring at 21ppg..."
7/13/2006 (Nike Peach Jam)- "The New Orleans Panthers' Greg Monroe had a big game against the New York Guachos as he scored half of his team's 62 points (31)..."
7/10/2006 (Nike All-American Camp- Indianapolis, IN)- Monroe was the 15th ranked player and 2nd ranked underclassman in the Nike Camp Fab 50: "If it wasn't for Cordell Passley's outstanding performance this week, Greg would have been our top rated underclassman, and he was still the top college prospect of all the players. He has good hands and is a polished scorer. He takes up a lot of space in the lane with his wide shoulders and looks like a guy that will add to his 226lb. frame by college. Greg was a force on the boards on both ends of the court and was good for a lot of offensive putbacks. He seems most comfortable away from the basket, but will be a force when he starts demanding the ball down low. Top 5 player in the class of 2008." |

We are going to release our class of 2008 player rankings next week that will be expanded to 200 players, but we have a very good idea of what the top-75 is going to look like and decided to give our readers a preview.
There are a handful of players in this class that have made a push at dethroning Brandon Jennings (pictured) from the top spot, but after a stellar high school season with Oak Hill Academy and an MVP performance at the Easter Classic earlier this spring, Jennings has held down the #1 ranking.
