"One On One" with Travis McKie

Travis McKie (6'6 SF) is an up and coming star in the 2010' class and like most talented players from the Virginia area he is playing and learning in a system (Boo Williams) that has produced such talent as Duke Crews (Tennessee), Vernon Macklin (Florida) and Patrick Patterson (Kentucky) to name a few. In this edition of "One On One" McKie takes some time to talk to us about his recruiting, his goals for the future, and his dream school.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
HoopsReport: Travis, you play with one of the most high profile summer teams in Boo Williams 16u, talk a little bit about how your summer was and the experience you gain from playing such high competition.

Travis McKie: "It was a great summer with Boo. With Boo Williams, You always play the top competiton in the nation day in and day out so it makes you elevate your game. It's no better feeling than to better compare and compete with the best in the nation and maybe the world".

 
HR: What would you say was the highlight of your summer?

TM: "NBA Camp. Performance wise, I didn't play a lot and I didn't perform as I should. Other than that, I love the camp. Not only did they try to improve your basketball skills, they show us life experience of being a ball player. I learned a lot there and it is a personal goal to go back next year and perform at a high level like I know I'm capable of".

 
HR: What does your list of schools look like at the moment? Including scholarship offers.

TM: "VA Tech, UVA, MD, BC, Clemson, Wake Forest have offered. Interest from VCU, Georgetown, UNC, UF, UCONN, OU, KU, ND, Miami, Texas, Georgia Tech and more".

HR: Out of the schools you gave us give us your top 3 or 5 schools at the moment.

TM: "I dont have a top list yet".

 
HR: During basketball season what college basketball team do you pull for?

TM: "My dream school growing up was North Carolina".

 
HR: How did your sophomore season go at John Marshall HS and what were your stats?

TM: "We went 26-3. Lost in the states semifinals. A very good season but fell short. This year, we are working to go all the way to a state championship. Last year I averaged 18.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists".

HR: Going into your junior campaign what are some your goals for the upcoming year?

TM: "STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. That all I want is a ring".

 
HR: What player(s) would you compare your game to?

TM: "A lot of people compare me to Lamar Odom but I dont really compare myself to nobody".

 
HR: Who is the best player you've ever played against?

TM: "Harrison Barnes"

 
HR: If you weren't playing basketball what would you be doing?

TM: "Other than getting an education, I dont know what I would be doing".

HR: Do you have any other hobbies besides basketball?

TM: "Chilling with friends and family"

 
HR: When it comes time for you to choose the college that's right for you what are going to be some of the factors in your decision?

TM: "Everything about the school. The Campus, The students, The atmosphere, The education etc...As far as basketball, The relationship with the coach, style of play, teammates and playing time"

 
HR: Who is your favorite NBA team and player?

TM: "I dont have a favorite team. My all time favorite players are Michael Jordan, Lebron James & Penny Hardaway".

 
HR: XBox or Playstation?

TM: "I dont own neither because Im not really into them. But Playstation".

HR: Who is the biggest role model in your life and why?

TM: "My Mother and My Grandparents. They made me who I am and love me with or without a basketball".

 
HR: Is there anything else the fans out there should know about Travis McKie?

TM: "That Im really funny and down to earth".
