One on One with Terrence Oglesby

By: James Mulcahy
One on One- We recently had a chance to catch up with Terrence Oglesby, a Clemson recruit from Cleveland, TN. Oglesby updated us on his senior season and gave us his thoughts on Clemson’s success in this edition of One on One.
Terrence Oglesby is one of the best pure shooters in the country, and proved he could fill it up against the best when we saw him for the first time at Nike Camp last summer. We recently got word that the 6’1 combo guard scored 57 points in a win over Chattanooga Red Bank, breaking Bradley Central’s all time single game scoring mark. We caught up with the senior sharpshooter for some Q & A over the weekend:
You have already signed with Clemson, what made you choose the Tigers? “There were a lot of different reasons I picked the Tigers. The opportunity to play in the ACC was a big plus, but also the fact that I would have the opportunity to play right away seeing as they need a shooter. Another thing was I felt right at home on campus.”
What is Coach Purnell like? “Very likeable person. I love the style in which he coaches. He’s a teacher of the game. Also he’s very down to earth and treats everyone with respect.”
What are your thoughts on Clemson’s surprising success this year? “I knew they were going to be better than last year but it really surprised me as far as being the last undefeated team in the country. Everyone is playing so well together and it’s nice to see that. I can’t wait to become a part of it all.”
Is there a player that you compare your game to? “One player that I like to compare my game to is Michigan State’s Drew Neitzel, I hear that a lot. Another person many have said is Mark Price.”
What are some of the strengths of your game? “I think I am one of the better shooters in my area. Another facet of my game that I think is overlooked is my passing. Many people focus so much on my shot that they don’t see the fact that I see the floor pretty well.”
What part of college life are you looking forward to most? “Just the whole atmosphere of going to football games, hanging out with my new teammates, and working hard in the gym to get better.”
What ACC school are you looking forward to playing against most?“To be honest I probably couldn’t pick just one. It’s always crazy to play at Maryland and Duke. Also looking forward to playing Lance Storrs and Gani Lawal at Georgia Tech.”
How is your senior season going and what are your stats? “Well we are 24-4 and playing really well as a team. I’m averaging close to 26 a game and around 6 assists so I’m playing well.”
What is your best accomplishment in your basketball career so far? “I don’t really know. Probably in high school it was winning our region championship. Individually I would say being able to attend the Nike All-American camp and the NBAPA Top 100.”
