"One on One" with John Henson

UNC commit, John Henson from Round Rock (TX), has been one of the fastest rising players in the 2009 class in the past months and he's continued his stellar play into the summer. Henson took some time out of his busy summer schedule to talk to us about UNC, coach Williams, hobbies and much more in this edition of One on One.

HoopsReport: John, in the last few months you have been one of the fastest rising players in the 2009 class. Moving into most peoples top 10 rankings. What do you contribute your high level of play and improved stock to?
"I think it's just a combination of my hard work and being in the right situation to perform and show my skills against the best players."


HR: Back in January you committed to Roy Williams and the Tar Heels, what made you decide that UNC was the right school for you?
"I just loved the coaching staff and everthing about the college."


HR: What is coach Roy Williams like?
"He's a great guy and a players coach and that's what I look for in a coach."


HR: Growing up what college basketball deam did you pull for?
"UNC of course!"

HR: How did your junior season at Round Rock HS (TX) go and what were your stats?
"22 points 11 rebounds and 5 blocks"


HR: What's been the best part of your summer so far?
"Probably all the camps and tournaments."

HR:Who is your favorite NBA team and player?
"Tracy mcgrady and the rockets."

HR:Who is the best player you've ever played against?
"D.J. Augustin"

HR:What player(s) would you compare your game to?
"KG and chrish bosh"

HR:If you had to rank the top 5 players in the 2009 class, what would your rankings look like?
"I'd probably keep it like it is..."

HR: Do you have any other hobbies besides basketball?
"Fishing, I love fishing."


HR: Do you have any nicknames and if so how did you get them?
"Stretch because my arms are so long that's what my team calls me ."

HR: What do you feel is the biggest accomplishment in your basketball career so far?
"Commiting to a college for a free education."


HR: What are some of your goals for your senior season?
"Acheive all american status, win my district and make a run for the state championship."

HR: What do you feel are the strengths of your game?
"My verstaility on the offensive end and my shot blocking."

HR:What areas of your game do you work the most on to improve?
"Strength and my shot..also ball handling"

HR: Who is the biggest role model in your life and why?
"My dad because he pushed me when I was young and just helped me in so many ways."
