One on One With Jeffrey Jordan

By: James Mulcahy

Michael Jordan’s son, Jeffrey, has been a favorite of ours over the past couple seasons.  He was one of the most improved players in the country from his junior to senior season, and he played well enough at the 2007 Nike All-America Camp to be ranked 16th overall in our Fab 50 rankings.  He’s now one of the top unsigned seniors in the country, and we recently had a chance to catch up with him for some Q & A.

What does your list of schools look like right now? “My list of colleges include offers from Valparaiso, Loyola Chicago, Illinois State, Davidson, Bowling Green, and late interest from Xavier and Marquette. I’m still looking for the right fit for me so I won’t start to narrow it down until after the season.”

What are going to be some of the factors when it comes to choosing a school? "I think playing time will be the most important factor. I’d hope to be playing good minutes within my freshman or sophomore year. Also, that I feel comfortable with the schools student body and staff.”

How do you feel about being ranked #101 in Hoops Report’s '07 class? “It’s great to have that type of recognition. After years of working hard and trying to improve, it’s good to see that someone notices and gives you a boost in confidence.”

What player or players do you compare your game to? “I’d compare myself to Brandon Roy from the Portland Trailblazers and Dominic James of Marquette when it comes to style of play. Both are strong, smart guards who have a solid mid-range game and can finish at the basket.”

Talk a little bit about what it’s like to play on the same high school team as your younger brother? “It’s great having my younger brother on the team. We think alike most of time so it’s nice having that connection with a teammate on the court.”

How many hours a week would you say you spend with a basketball in your hands? “I’d have to say at least 20 hours a week. It varies a lot based on practice schedules and individual workouts, but that’s probably the minimum.”

What would you say is your biggest accomplishment so far in your basketball career? “I think playing in this past year’s Nike All-American camp has been the best accomplishment/memory of my high school career. We had a great group of players and we all had fun that week. I felt I played well from what I’ve heard, it’s the last All-American camp Nike is putting on….so it’s somewhat historic.”

What is the most points you have scored in a high school game? “The most points I scored in a high school game was 32, matching my jersey number.”
