One on One with DeMarcus Cousins

We recently caught up with DeMarcus Cousins for some Q&A and he gave us a peak into his recruiting process.

Cousins is currently ranked 2nd in the country in the loaded class of 2009.  The Birmingham (AL) Erwin High School product was one of the top underclassmen at this year’s Nike Memorial Day Classic and more recently was the talk of the University of Kentucky’s Elite Camp.

HR: How is your summer going and what AAU team are you running with?
“It’s going good.  I play with the Alabama Storm.”

HR: What does your list of schools look like right now?
“UAB, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Florida, and Texas.”

HR: What are going to be some of the biggest factors when it comes time to choose a school?
“Where I’m going to get my education and a school that fits my needs.”

HR: What do you look for in a coach?
“A coach that cares about me outside of basketball.”

HR: You just recently attended Kentucky's Elite Camp, what was your impression of Coach Gillispie and the Kentucky staff?
“They’re all great people and it feels like family there.”

HR: How did your sophomore season at Erwin HS go?
“We lost in the Final 4.” 

HR: What do you feel are the strengths of your game and what parts of your game do you feel you need to improve?
“Everything, there’s always room to improve.”

HR: How do you feel about your #2 ranking in Hoops Report's 09' class?
“Its just  another accomplishment... but I still in my mind haven’t made it.”

HR: What is your favorite NBA team and player?
“Amare Stoudemire and Denver.”

HR: Who was your favorite college basketball team growing up?
“Didn’t have one… I was a football player, lol.”

HR: Kobe, Lebron, or D-Wade?
“Lebron!”

HR: If you had to rank the top five kids in your class what would your rankings look like? “That’s not my job, I’ll leave that up to you guys… your on the outside looking in!”

HR: Who is the best player you’ve ever played against?
“Stanley Robinson from UConn.”

HR: What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment in your basketball career so far?
“I’m still working my ass off to improve each day.”

HR: What are some of your goals for the future?
“To be the best!”

HR: Who is the biggest role model in your life and why?
“My parents, they are so strong and never stop working.  That is the way you have to be to make it in life.”

HR: Is there anything else the people out there should know about DeMarcus Cousins? “I’m very silly!”

“Alabama Storm, Erwin Eagles, Alabama, and all the hoopers out there trying to make it.”
