"One on One" with Daniel Orton

Daniel Orton, a 6'8 PF from Oklahoma City (OK) took some time out of his busy summer schedule to get us caught up on his latest recruitment, favorite coach, the craziest fans and much more.
 
 
 
 
 
HoopsReport: Daniel, first off everyone wants to know what your list of schools looks like at the moment, so give us an update on your most recent list.

"UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio St., UConn, Kentucky."

HR: Out of that list give us a favorite or at least a top three.

"Top three would probably be, UConn, Ohio St., and Kentucky."

HR: What do you look for in a college coach?

"What I look for in a coach is how well he gets along with his players and how many players he puts in the NBA, especially big men."

HR: Out of all the fans of school's that you've encountered, which ones stick out to as the most knowledgeable and most dedicated fan base?

"Probably the UK fans so far."

HR: What are going to be some of the factors when it comes time to choose the right school for you?

"Things that will come into play when choosing a college will be tradition, other players that are there, other players coming in and their recent history."

HR: Out of all the D-1 coaches that are recruiting you, is their one in particular that sticks out as your favorite coach?

"I've been around coach Capel (Oklahoma) a lot and I really like him."

HR: What college basketball team did you root for when you were growing up?

"I really like Michigan St. but Tom Izzo never recruited me."

HR: Who is your favorite NBA team and player?

"Favorite NBA team is the Detroit Pistons and no favorite player."

HR: Who is the best player you've ever played against?

"Blake Griffin is the best player I've played against."

HR: What do you feel is the biggest accomplishment in your basketball career so far?

"Winning 3 state championships is my greatest accomplishment."

HR: What are some of your goals for the near future?

"I want to finish high school with 4 state championships."

HR: Do you have any other hobbies besides basketball?

"I like to bowl and I collect hotel key cards."

HR: Do you have any nicknames? If so how did you get them?

"D.J. because those are my initials and D.O. from one of my high school coaches, Mike Walker."

HR: What kind of music do you listen to and who is your favorite artist?

"Luther Vandross is my favorite artist but I like oldies, mostly motown. I also like a little Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffett and Sonny and Cher. I do like rap too though."

HR: Who is the biggest role model in your life and why?

"My mother and father both are the biggest role models in my life because of their strength. I would also have to say my brother Terrence, he's been around alot for me lately and he has always been a great role model."

HR: Is there anything else the fans out there should know about Daniel Orton?

"Nothing else I can think of really to tell the fans but I do like video games if that helps."
