One on One with Austin Freeman

Georgetown has inked one of the best scorers in the country with 6’4 senior Austin Freeman. He was the best player in Nike Camp last summer and is leading DeMatha with 23.5 points a game this season. We recently caught up with the All-American candidate for some Q&A.
What made you decide to take your game to Georgetown?
“I got along with Coach Thompson, and the whole coaching staff, also I got along with the players very well.”
Was GU always on the top of your list?
“Not at all, I didn’t really think about going there.”
What is coach Thompson like?
“Real cool guy.”
How do you feel about your #10 ranking in Hoops Report’s 07’ class?
“It’s an honor that people think I’m good.”
Chris Wright, our #18 in the 07 class has also committed to Georgetown, talk about how good you think you guys can be in the future.
“We could be really good because our games complement each other, so it will be fun.”
What player or players would you compare your game to?
“Carmelo Anthony and Keith Bogans”
What are some of the strengths of your game?
“My versatility and my mid-range game.”
Is there a game in your high school career that sticks out to you as your best game?
“My freshman year, we were playing in South Carolina and I hit the game winning three.”
What part of college life are you looking forward to most?
“The girls(lol) and just being able to live on my own.”
What is one thing you wont be able to live without in college?
“TV.”
How is your senior season at DeMatha going and what are your stats?
“It’s going well, we had some tough losses but it’s good….I am avg. 23.5ppg, 5.2rpg, and 3apg.”
What would you say is your biggest accomplishment in your basketball career so far?
“Just getting better every year.”
