Zollo commits to Kentucky
Lexington, Ky.- The University of Kentucky landed their fourth recruit in the last seven days when Vinny Zollo committed to the Cats today while on an unofficial visit to the school.
Zollo is a 6’8 freshman forward from Ohio that has drawn praise for his ability to handle the ball and shoot from the perimeter-- skills that not many players his size possess. He is also considered a tough post presence where he is a good rebounder and shot-blocker. This past season, Zollo averaged close to 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks per game as a freshman playing varsity for Greenfield McClain High School.
The Kentucky staff has been courting the talented freshman for a while now. Zollo first visited UK’s Lexington campus during Midnight Madness late last year before attending a Cats win over Arkansas at Rupp Arena in February.
He is the third player from the Indiana Elite AAU program to commit to Kentucky in the last week as sophomore Dominique Ferguson committed to the program last Tuesday and 8th-grader Michael Avery verballed just two days after that.
Because of the “recruiting pipeline” that Coach Gillispie has started with Indiana Elite, Kentucky should have an advantage over other schools when courting Indiana Elite players in the future.
Zollo is the twelfth player to commit to Kentucky since Gillispie was hired as head coach just over one year ago. The others are Patrick Patterson, Alex Legion, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Kevin Galloway, Josh Harrellson, GJ Vilarino, Dakotah Euton, KC Ross-Miller, Dominique Ferguson and Michael Avery.
