Tennessee offers JUCO point guard

By: James Mulcahy
Knoxville, TN- The University of Tennessee has extended a scholarship offer to popular junior-college point guard Bobby Maze.
Maze was a starting point guard for Oklahoma as a freshman, but was dismissed from the team in April of last year. He then transferred to Hutchinson Community College where he was an All-American this past season after averaging close to 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds per game. The 6’3 playmaker committed to Maryland in December, but Terps coach Gary Williams recently withdrew his scholarship offer.
Maze is also being recruited by Kentucky, Cincinnati, and St. John’s.
We received word from Knoxville this morning that sophomore guard Ramar Smith has been dismissed from the Tennessee basketball team for violating team rules. This report has not been made public and is unconfirmed at this point. Is this the reason why Tennessee has rejoined the race for Bobby Maze’s services? We will keep you informed as we attempt to confirm this report.
