JUCO Guard Picks Kent St.

By: Brett Blevins

Earlier this afternoon, 6'4 combo guard Carlton Guyton committed to Kent St.  Guyton will finish this year out at Mineral Area College, and join the Golden Flashes in their 2010 class.
Guyton is a thin and athletic guard with a knack for scoring the basketball.  He can shoot it and put it on the deck.  As a senior in high school, he averaged 17 points, 3.4 boards, and 2.4 assists a game.  Carlton started the last 15 games for Mineral Area last season.
"The coaching staff and the players were huge in my decision," Guyton said via phone tonight.  Guyton was initially recruited by coach Armon Gates who has major ties to the Chicago area.
Guyton also mentioned the possibility of playing time in the 2010-2011.
"Being a JUCO, I was looking for somewhere I could step in and contribute my junior season.  Kent St. loses a few guards and I will have the opportunity to do that."
Carlton had offers from Drake and Loyola, but he was also receiving heavy interest from Illinois St., UAB, UNC-Greensboro, and Cal State Northridge
