HOOPSREPORT'S NBA QUARTERLY REVIEW: POWER RANKINGS, CONFERENCE RANKINGS & STAT LEADERS

By: Jeff Meadows

In what has been predicted to be one of the most highly anticipated seasons in recent memory, the first quarter of the 2012/2013 NBA season has lived up to all expectations as both the Eastern & Western Conferences have shown that the road to the NBA Finals will be as equally as difficult for all teams that are currently in the "Race for the Play-Offs".

PARITY

Not since the 90's have I seen such parity in the NBA as teams like Brooklyn, Miami, NY, Clippers, 76ers, Golden State etc. and all have capeable players which makes for an incredible season thus far. Even though some of us may have our own predictions or thoughts as to who will be crowned NBA Champs this season but because of the parity (specifically among the top six teams in each of the Eastern and Western Conference) it's truly anyone's title to win.

Let's take a look at HoopsReport's NBA TOP 25 POWER RANKINGS.

BIGGEST SURPRISES

One of the biggest surprises this far has to be Carmello Anthony and the NY Knicks and rookie sensation Damian Lillard of the Portland Trailblazers. With key additions the NY Kicks are off to one of their best starts in franchise history and by the looks of things they are not looking back. Knicks All-NBA (F) Carmello Anthony in my mind, is playing his best basketball largely in part by the Knicks biggest off season acquisition All-NBA (G) Jason Kidd (AKA: "The Ageless Wonder") and a couple of other key acquisitions. The Portland Trailblazers must feel great especially after losing an outstanding guard in Brandon Roy another outstanding guard has landed in Portland and he goes by the name of Damian Lillard the rookie out of Weber St. Thus far, Lillard has shown that he has what it takes to become a lead guard in a league that is LEAD GUARD DRIVIN. If Lillard can continue playing at a high level I believe that he will become one of the NBA’s top lead guards sooner than later and as far as Mello goes, I hope that he can continue playing the same way that he has started the season and if he does, the East will be OFFICIALLY UP FOR GRABS.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS

The biggest disappointment thus far would have to be the L.A. Lakers inability to win home games along with not beating teams that they are supposed to beat but don’t panic just yet because Steve Nash is on the way and we all know that with Steve Nash comes great ball movement and everything else.

WHO WILL BE WHERE AT THE MIDWAY POINT?

Like I said at the beginning of this segment IT'S THERE FOR THE TAKING and one way to get that answer is to stay logged on to HoopsReport for upcoming exclusive 2013 "NBA Mid season Preview".
