CLASS OF 2016 INTRO: Rodney Miller Jr
By: Jeff Meadows
In a day in time where true post players have become a thing of the past as at least 80% of bigs are or attempt to be (W's), class of 2016, 6'11 (C) Rodney Miller Jr out of Laurelton, NY (a borough of Queens) is a definite THROW BACK. You see, I had got the opportunity to watching Miller play at the JLIMSC (John Lucas International Middle School Combine) this past May and Miller was extremely impressive, in fact, when we put out our class of 2016 Summer "National Player Rankings" Miller came in at #3 and since then, he has grown 2 inches.
Take a look at HoopsReport's player profile on Rodney Miller Jr.
PLAYER PROFILE: Rodney Miller Jr.
Rodney is a prototypical BIG meaning: Miller is a mainstay in the post, he doesn't try to go out on the (W) and do things that he can't instead Miller DOMINATES INSIDE. Miller alters and blocks lot's of shots and , he also finishes at a very high rate and the majority of his finishes are very hard, ferocious, two handed throw downs on or over the opposition and when Miller's teammate's miss shots, Miller's seems to clean up from the weak side with more ferocious throw downs. Miller also has developed the "Jump hook" with both hands and is also working on putting the "Sky hook" in his offensive arsenal. Miller also has a nice mid range shot and is a good free throw shooter.
HARD WORK PAYS OFF
When speaking with Miller's trainer/mentor Larry Marshall, the 1 thing that was made crystal clear is this "He puts the time and work in both the class room and on the court", "There's no time left in the day to waste doing things that are counter productive" said Marshall. Miller is a freshman at one of the top academic/basketball institutions in the country "St. Benedict's Prep" in Newark, NJ who's alumni is a very extremely long and filled with pros.
WHERE WILL RODNEY MILLER JR. END UP IN HOOPSREPORT'S 2016 NPR'S?
As time goes, Rodney continues to improve in all areas but will Rodney's constant improvement and physical growth be enough to earn him #1 spot in HoopsReport's 2016 Fall "National Player Rankings"? Very soon we will find out.
