Class of 2008 Player Rankings

We are going to release our class of 2008 player rankings next week that will be expanded to 200 players, but we have a very good idea of what the top-75 is going to look like and decided to give our readers a preview.

There are a handful of players in this class that have made a push at dethroning Brandon Jennings from the top spot, but after a stellar high school season with Oak Hill Academy and an MVP performance at the Easter Classic earlier this spring, Jennings has held down the #1 ranking… for now.  Greg Monroe, Ed Davis, Jrue Holiday, Al-Farouq Aminu, Tyreke Evans, and Delvon Roe are the biggest threats to steal top honors from Jennings.

Greg Monroe has the most upside of any player in the class with his hard-to-find combination of size and skill, but we feel that he hasn’t begun to reach his potential yet, and until Monroe proves that he can be the dominant big man we believe he can become, he is going to have to settle for #2.

Ed Davis is having the best AAU season of any big in the country and he proved that he’s going to make a case for the top spot when he went head-to-head with Monroe and more than held his own in a showdown at the Boo Williams Invitational.

Jrue Holiday has proved to be the most complete shooting guard in the country while having Pump ‘n Run looking like the most dangerous AAU squad in the nation.

Al-Farouq Aminu led the Georgia Stars to the championship of the King James Classic, and his coach, Bo Bell, told us that same weekend that there is no doubt in his mind that Aminu is the best prospect in the country.

Tyreke Evans has always held down the 1-2 or 3 spot in our rankings but after big springs by his peers and Team Final’s no-show at the King James, he was the player that had to drop.  Don’t be surprised to see him back in the top-5 (or higher) real soon.

Delvon Roe was big-time at King James and even outplayed Aminu in their matchup.  He’s a consistent jump shot away from making a climb back into the top-5.

And now what you’ve all been waiting for…
