CLASS OF 2016 INTRO: Christian Ellis
By: Jeff Meadows
The Bay Area is known for putting out lot's of great talent each year and it's latest big time prospect in no exception his name: Christian Ellis. At 6'2 190lbs and chiseled, Christian has all of the physical attributes and mentally, Christian definitely has what it takes to be an elite level player especially when throw in the fact that Christian is only an in coming freshman. I received a call from a very good friend of mine John Ortega Head coach of the AZ D1 Ambassadors 17U who invited me to come down and watch a player by the name of Christian Ellis to work for world renown trainer Sundance Wicks which I did and boy was I impressed. In all of my 21 years of experience in grass roots basketball I can not recall witnessing a player of his size, height, strength do the things that Christian was doing. The first thing I noticed was Christian's work ethic, the young man doesn't get tired nor does quit or slow down exist in his mental capacity. "Christian is one of the hardest working athletes that I know and I'm not saying that because he's my son" said Christian's father Darryl Ellis "I'm saying that because it's reality" Christian worked extremely hard while performing collegiate and NBA drills with ease. "In all of my years of basketball I can't recall ever seeing a kid that age perform the way Christian performs and on the level that he performs" said top trainer Sundance Wicks "Christian is a special player and person". You see, Christian is one of those players who loves to compete against top talent, shying away from a good or great match up is not his thing. Christian put together a list of top camps and tournaments that he felt would best suite his quest at becoming one of the nation's elite prospects in the 2016 class and his list was an impeccable one. Let's take a look at Christian's list of events that he attended this past spring and summer and how he fared.
STEP 1: DINOS TRIGONIS TRIPPLE CROWN MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOWCASE (Showcase/Camp)
In his first major event, Christian performed at an extremely high level as he literally ran threw the competition and earned showcase MVP honors.
STEP 2: CHAD GROTH'S ADIDAS MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPOSURE SHOWCASE (Showcase/Camp)
In just his second major event, Christian again performed at a very high level as he physically punished his opponents with his size, strength and abnormal GOD given skill set only to once again earn showcase MVP honors.
STEP 3: NIKE EYBL SESSION II "BOO WILLIAMS" (Tournament)
At the Nike EYBL Session II (AKA: "Boo Williams" Christian played with the Northern Cal Pharaohs 15U squad where he put on an all around basketball clinic averaging over 17pts 10rebounds & 7assist leading his team to the Elite 8 at the EYBL 15U division.
STEP 4: JOHN LUSAS INTERNATIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL COMBINE
At a camp that featured the nation's top middle school players, Christian showed and proved that he was among the top 1-3 guard prospects in America by thrashing top notch competition all weekend long.
STEP 5: PHENOM 150 (Camp)
At the Phenom 150 Christian did what he had been doing all spring/summer which is handle the competition in a major way and earned the #2 prospect overall at the camp.
Here's my take on Christian Ellis.
PLAYER PROFILE: CHRISTIAN ELLIS
Christian is a unique player for a number of reasons for starters, he's a physical freak. He has the body of a big time college linebacker or safety and his skill set is amazing for his age. Even though Christian is physically matured, he's not one of those prospects that mature early and top out, not at all. In fact Christian is a legit 14 year old, not a hold back not to say that there's anything wrong with being a hold back. Christian has a very solid mid range game and he get's to the basket at will due to his great body size, strength, good ball handling and above average foot speed. If there's a facet in Christian's game that can use just a tad bit work is his consistency shooting the deep ball which he does quite well already. All in all, Christian is an Elite Level Prospect
That I'm sure will an opportunity to play at the highest of levels when it's all said & done.
Christian has played in front of just about every top scout in the country and for the scouts that have seen him play they all pretty much say the same thing, "Christian has game" said John Lucas Camp Director Brian Merritt "He has what you can't teach which is great natural ability".
