Viva Las Vegas News and Notes

Josh Selby, 6'2 combo guard, showed why he will be one of the most sought after guards in the 2010 class after his recent decommittment. His team came out stagnant facing a 2-3 zone from a team out of Pittsburgh, but then they turned up the full court pressure. Josh took off his headband and it seemed to work. He had back to back 1-handed flushes in transition and then dialed it up from three. He also displayed unselfishness by getting his teammates layups when the defense collapsed on him. I still feel he is the best scoring guard in the class.
Roscoe Smith(2010), 6'8 wing forward, had a nice game when we watched as well. The thing about Smith is he can flat out shoot the ball. That ability is what keeps defenses honest and allows him to showcase some of his other skills. He caught a lob that grazed off the rim and was able to reverse it with authority. His list is still up in the air.
Quincy Miller(2011), 6'9 forward, was a tremendous force in a loss to Texas Bluechips. We had him unofficially with 8 blocked shots, having 3 on one possession alone. Miller is extremely long and showed good bounce after catching the ball in the middle of the zone at the high post. Not only would he find his way to the rim, but he consistently knocked down the 12-15 footer.
Bishop Danielsis a 2011 guard that we had a feature on yesterday. He played at Word of God with John Wall, and he considers himself a combo guard. Bishop is very versatile and plays with a high motor. His ability and willingness to guard stood out to us. At 6'2 he showed flashes of great athleticism, finishing acrobatic reverses and putting back a miss with a dunk, that had most of the jaws on the ground in they gymnasium.
Jordan Omogbehin(2011) is a man mountain. He is 7'2 280 pounds and possibly still growing. College coaches were scrambling trying to find out who he was and what the story on his recruitment is. He is an imposing figure that almost tore the backboard down with 4-5 monsterous jams against Mac Irvin Fire. Last year he was at Montrose Christian but will be at National Christian Academy this year. Early leaders in his recruitment are Georgetown and Florida State. Look for almost all the big boys to come calling very soon, because the secret from Nigeria is out.
Kai Smith(2010), 6'3 combo guard from Upper Marlboro, MD, also had a very nice game against Mac Irvin Fire. We absolutely love the speed at which this kid plays, which is at his speed. He scored in a variety of ways: from deep, pull-up jumpers, mid-post turnarounds, transition, etc. He is getting interest across the board from mid-majors to high-majors. Others should take notice - he may still be under the radar - because this kid has a great feel for the game and can flat out play.
Wayne Blackshearis an absolute stud. The 6'5 wing guard told us that he plans on visiting Kentucky and Kansas very soon. Other schools that have offered on top of those two include Indiana, Louisville, amongst a host of other schools. Blackshear is a top level athlete in the 2011 class that will be ranked toward the top.
Mike Shaw(2011) is a 6'8 wing forward with electric athleticism just like Blackshear. His back-to-back dunks off lob had the crowd buzzing. He is extremely long and gets better everytime we see him play. It is rumored him and Blackshear, teammates on Mac Irvin Fire, are a package deal, but time will tell.
Tim Hardaway Jr.(2010) comes off the bench for the Mac Irvin Fire as the backup shooting guard, and shoot it he can. By our count he made 6 of 7 threes. As you would expect from a son of an ex-NBA'er he thinks a good game and has high basketball IQ.
Tony Wroten(2011) has all the tools. He would be a top 10 player in the 2010 class. He is a smooth lefty that can get in the lane anytime he wishes. He is a good leaper and showcased a knack for blocking shots today, getting one almost at the top corner of the backboard. His list is all over the place with offers from almost every big name school you can think of. He will need to make sure he stays humble and keeps working hard, especially on his jumpshot, because at times he played aloof and seems to be developing a prima donna attitude off-the-court as well.
Dominic Ballardis a 2010 prospect that plays extremely hard. He has a good body and can shoot the rock. He also displayed ability to get the basket. This left-hander will be a great addition for a high major school.
Xavier Jones(2010), had a very nice game for SYF Players against Seattle Rotary. He has a complete offensive game with abilities to hit the 3, pull-up J, and finish at the basket. He is currently uncommitted but has some nice offers. We will follow up with him after the second evaluation period.
Trey Ziegler(2010) had a huge game against the NY Panthers for Team Detroit. At 6'5 he shoots the ball well. His ability to use the shot fake to free himself up for his midrange game really stood out. Trey was aggressive going to the basket as well.
Ray McCallum (2010) is definitely a coach's son. He is so composed even after getting in altercations on the court. I counted at least 7 assists in the game against the NY Panthers. He is a natural floor leader who speaks glowingly of Arizona. Don't be surprised if he ends up there along with Dominique Ferguson.
Sterling Gibbs(2011) is a lightning quick 6'1 guard from NJ. His ability to finish with either hand around the rim is impeccable. He changes direction well and can hang in the lane and finish through contact. He has a handful of offers we documented yesterday as well as the visits he has planned.
Devin Wright-Nelson(2010) is a 6'5 forward with an old school game. This crafty lefty is going to make some mid-major very happy. He can knock down the 3, post up, and he knows how to score around the basket in a variety of ways. He projects as a 4 at the next level on the defensive end. Look for him on the low to mid-major level.
