Insider Prep Elite 80 Showcase

By: Rob Taylor

By most accounts, the Insider Prep 80 Showcase was a success. The one day showcase event was held at the Hoop in Columbus and drew approximately 95 players from several areas around the state. Other than one player from Cincinnati, the majority of the talent was from northern and central Ohio.
In terms of the format, the camp began with a couple of hours of skill and drill station work, followed by two league games. Unlike most events of this kind, every team participated in a single elimination tournament to crown a champion, as opposed to an all-star game format. The 76er's prevailed as showcase champions on the strength of the inside/outside play of Jared Sullinger and Stevie Taylor.
In addition to the handful of scouting services on hand, there were several D-II and DIII college coaches in the gym evaluating and interacting with players and parents. Some of the colleges that were represented were Dennison, Columbus St., Notre Dame College, West Liberty St., and Walsh.
In addition to some of the bigger named players in attendance, such as Jared Sullinger, Jordan Siebert, JD Weatherspoon, Stevie Taylor, Treavon Jackson, and Trey Burke, there was a good mix of high, mid, and low major D-1 talent in the gym.
Ther were also a number of young talented players who based on their performance at the event are poised for a productive freshman season. Some of the young standout players included: Elijah Macon, Jalen Robinson, Isiah Rogers, Mike Davis, Kenny Kimenski, Davonte Peterson, and Jordan Potts.
