City of Palms: Player Rankings

Ft. Myers, FL- This is a ranking of the top 30 players based on performance during the first 4 days of the event.  Unfortunately we could not stay for the championship round, but we received word that Mater Dei knocked off Liberty Tech 85-80 in the championship game.

1.  Taylor King 6-7 Sr. GF Mater Dei (Duke) 30 point performances were the norm.  He shot lights-out, was a leader in rebounds, and his team won the championship.

2.  Nick Calathes 6-5 Sr. PG Lake Howell (Florida) Smartest player in the tournament/country.  He scores, defends, passes and makes the plays to help his team win. 

3.  Kenny Boynton 6-2 So. G Ely Was a big time scorer in every game and stepped it up in his matchup against Lance Stephenson.

4.  Jerryd Bayless 6-4 Sr. G St. Mary’s (Arizona) He was unbelievable in leading his team to a victory over Arlington Country Day, but his sub-.500 shooting was a disappointment.

5.  Chandler Parsons 6-8 Sr. SF Lake Howell (Florida) He is as skilled as any player his size in the country. 

6.  Josh Sain 6-6 Sr. SF Liberty Tech The biggest surprise of the tournament, he was huge in his team’s run to the championship game. 

7.  Tyreke Evans 6-5 Jr. G American Christian He was a scoring machine… now one of the best in the country regardless of class.

8.  Greg Monroe 6-10 Jr. PF Helen Cox When he asserts himself, he is a superstar.

9.  Devon Lamb 6-2 Sr. SG Arlington Country Day 30 point+ performances and dominated the boards.

10. Lance Kearse 6-7 Sr. PF Ft. Myers (VCU) His 43 point outburst was a top performance.

11. Lance Stephenson 6-5 So. G Lincoln He was great early in the tournament and word is he scored 39 points in a game on the final day.

12. David and Travis Wear 6-8 So. SF Mater Dei These guys improved their stock this week.  They let the game come to them and made few mistakes and missed even fewer shots.

13. Joey Rodriguez 5-10 Sr. PG Lake Howell (VCU) He might only be 5-10, but he is still one of the top point guards you’ll find.  Top notch passer and scores when needed.

14. Calvin Thompson 6-3 Jr. PG Helen Cox This top point guard will join the top 100 in the jr. class when we update the national player rankings.

15. Dajuan Blair 6-7 Sr. PF Schenley (Pitt) He is a beast.  On this level he physically overmatches his opponents to the point of being unstoppable.  20 point and 20 rebound performances are the norm for him.

16. Kamyron Brown 6-0 Sr. PG Mater Dei (Oregon) Ran the show for Mater Dei.  We hear he was big-time down the stretch in the championship game.

17. Michael Glover 6-6 Sr. F American Christian (Seton Hall) Great athlete and strong as an ox.  He routinely put up 20 and 10.

18. DJ Kennedy 6-6 Sr. F Schenley Was huge in Schenley’s first game when he led them to a 68-64 win over Eisenhower with 25 points on 9-15 shooting.

19. Devon Peterson 6-3 Sr. SG Lincoln He was the hero in Lincoln’s win over Ely when he scored 26 points and hit the game-winning shot.

20. Rayford Shipman 6-6 Jr. SF Pace Although he had a couple disappointing games, he did have a 30 point, 7 rebound performance against Golden Gate that was one of the better performances of the week.

21. Brandon Walters 6-9 Sr. FC Lincoln (Seton Hall) He is a dominating rebounder and shot-blocker with an improving offensive game.

22. Lewis Jackson 5-8 Jr. PG Eisenhower The little guy threw down some impressive dunks and had some big scoring performances.

23. Terrelle Pryor 6-6 Jr. SF Jeannette He had been busy with football during the past few months, but he played great after getting a game under his belt.

24. Max Groebe 6-5 Sr. GF Dr. Krop (UMass) He was as good as anyone in the tournament for 2 quarters.

25. Willie Powers 6-2 Sr. SG PK Yonge (Georgia Southern) Was one of the best players on opening night.

26. Myk Brown 6-4 Sr. GF PK Yonge (VCU) With Rodriguez running the point, this kid at shooting guard, and Lance Kearse at small forward, the future is very bright for VCU.

27. Raymond Taylor 5-6 So. PG Pace This little guy is one to watch.  He has a slick handle, good passing skills and is a fearless scorer.

28. Kevin Foster 6-7 Jr. Kathleen He is a good athlete that loves to dunk.  High major potential.

29. Eloy Vargas 6-9 Jr. PF American Heritage Runs the court well, rebounds, and blocks shots.  Tremendous upside.

30. Javi Gonzalez 5-11 Sr. PG Dr. Krop One of the best unsigned senior points in the country.
