Johnson City (TN) Freedom Hall (6300 capacity)
On February 22nd and 23rd, the United States Prep Basketball Foundation brings the Champions Prep Classic to Freedom Hall in Johnson City, TN for two action-packed days of hoops.
The 2008 Champions Classic features Oak Hill Academy (the 2004, 2005 and 2007 High School National Champions) from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, in addition to Patterson School (the top ranked prep school in the country in 2005 and 2006). At least 80 NCAA Division 1 prospects will grace the Freedom Hall hardwood.
The event features the #1 high school player in America, Brandon Jennings of Oak Hill. The 6’1 point guard has signed to play for Arizona next season.
The Patterson School features two of the top prep school players in the nation, Matt Simpkins and Courtney Fortson. Simpkins, a 6’9 forward, will play his college ball at Memphis, while Fortson, a 5’10 point guard and former Alabama Player of the Year, is headed to Arkansas in the fall.
Alumni of the Champions Classic include, Josh Smith (Atlanta Hawks), Kevin Durant (Seattle Sonics), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics), Michael Beasley (Kansas State), Tywon Lawson (North Carolina), Brandon Rush (Kansas), Nolan Smith (Duke), Antonio Anderson (Memphis), A.D. Vassalio (Virginia Tech), Olu Ashaolu (Louisiana Tech), Jeff Allen (Virginia Tech), and Jamont Gordon (Mississippi State).
