Champions Classic

Johnson City, TN-Brandon Jennings scored 41 points to help Oak Hill to a 20 point win over Eduard Mont Petit, but the biggest story from Friday’s action at the Champions Classic was Summit Prep’s upset of previously undefeated Patterson Prep.

6’5 senior Nigel Ajere scored 22 points to help Summit Prep (CA) overcome a double-digit second-half deficit and hand Patterson Prep (NC) their first loss of the season, 76-75.  Ajere, who also won the slam dunk contest, is an athletic wing prospect with a soft shooting touch.  He said that he could commit to Cleveland State as soon as next week, but that he is also considering Fresno, Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, Rutgers and Colorado.

Patterson was led by 6’9 Memphis-bound Matt Simpkins, who scored 14 points and blocked a handful of shots.  5’10 Arkansas-recruit Courtney Fortson was held to just nine points.

Other highlights

*7’2 Clemson-signee Catalin Baciu scored 15 points to help Veritas Christian (NC) to a 58-54 win over Covenant Christian (GA).

*Brandon Jennings scored 41 points (13-25fg, 14-18ft) to lead Oak Hill Academy (VA) to a 97-75 win over Eduard Mont Petit (Canada).  6’7 junior Glenn Bryant, one of the top athletes in the country, was also very impressive for the winners as he tallied 20 points, 7 rebounds, and six blocks.
