Adidas Take 5ive Day2 News and Notes

By: Brett Blevins

Fifth-Third Arena was buzzing Monday as the guest list read as a who's who in college basketball. The game garnering the most attention from coaches was an overtime win by Indiana Elite (17's) over Seattle Rotary Select. The game was hotly contested, only to be decided by a controversial reach in foul call on Seattle Rotary with 1 second on the clock. Standouts from this game along with others included:

Peyton Siva (6'0 PG Seattle Rotary 2009) - The Louisville commit put on a nice showing in front of his future coach Rick Pitino. Siva is a tremendous competitior, often extolling his team and challenging them to pick up the intensity. He leaps well which helps him finish at the basket. Siva is a good shooter with a nice burst to the basket which makes him difficult to defend. Coach Pitino was all smiles and it was easy to see why, the Cards landed a committment from a good one in Siva.

Josh Smith (6'9 C Seattle Rotary 2010) - Smith is an absolute load inside and to accompany his great size he also possesses soft hands. Smith gets off the ground well for a man his size. He had close to double-digit blocks in the game against Indiana Elite before fouling out. The big man listed a bunch of west-coast schools along with UK, Duke, and Louisville as the teams in the mix.

Tony Wroten (6'5 Seattle Rotary 2011) - Wroten is one of the players with the most upside in the tournament. The class of '11 prospect is extremely versatile. He is long and quick, allowing him to get into the paint at will. Wroten plays hard and uses his athleticism well on defense and when rebounding. He will need to learn to finish around the basket with his off hand as too many times he relied strictly on his left hand giving him no angle to finish the bucket.

Playing well today for the Indiana Elite 17's were the sharpshooting duo of Jordan Hulls (6'0 PG) and Colt Ryan (6'5 SG). The two combined for seven 3's in the first half against Seattle Rotary giving their team a fast start. Ryan is a nice looking player who comes off screens very well and Hulls not only impressed with his shooting ability but also with his ability to handle the basketball and penetrate when the offense breaks down.

Ge-Lawn Guyn (6'3 CG Kentucky Players 2010) - Despite his teams struggles and missing two key players Guyn has been nothing but terrific. The 6'3 combo guard has tremendous athleticism. Against Indiana Elite Guyn did anything he wanted with the ball in his hands...he sliced to the rim, got others involved, hit pull-up jumpers and knocked down a couple of 3 balls. His strength and quickness combined with his competitive nature make Guyn a coveted prospect. He list's Louisville, Wake Forest, UNC, South Carolina, Tennessee, and UK as schools he would like to take a closer look at. Guyn expects to visit UofL and South Carolina in late July/early August.

Elijah Pittman (6'7 WF Kentucky Players 2010) - Playing without his running mate from Covington Holmes HS (KY) Ricardo Johnson, Pittman raised a few eyebrows with his play the last two days. His ability to consistently knock down outside jumpers at his size is his biggest strength. Pittman has tremendous upside but must continue to work and develop some toughness around the basket. Look for his recruitment to pick up toward the end of the summer.

Jorrian Hudson (6'3 CG Shining Stars 2010) - Hudson was the best player on the court in one of he days best games which was a triple OT win for the Shining Stars over the OBC. Hudson did a little bit of everything. He uses his strength well to get to the basket and can finish at a high clip. Hudson will need to improve the consistency of his jumper.

Erik Murphy (6'10 PF New England Playaz 2009) - Murphy, who is committed to UF, has been an absolute wrecking ball for his playaz squad. The big man has played extremely well on the inside while also showing the ability to step out and hit it from deep. Murphy threw down a right-handed tomahawk on a fast break that had everyone in the gym taking notice.

Jordan McCrae (6'5 SG Atlanta Celtics 2010) - McCrae has put up big numbers in the tournament's first two days averaging over 28ppg.  He loves to play with a slashers mentalitly but he can also hit from the outside. McCrae plays with confidence and really seems to enjoy and love the game. Although it is still early for him and he is open to all schools he does list UK, Tennessee, and Florida as the schools in the mix right now. McCrae list's no leader and he is in no hurry to make a decision.

James Padgett, from Juice All-Stars is quietly becoming one of the better sleeper big men in the 2009 class. Padgett, who we wrote a little bit about yesterday gave us a list of 9 schools although he is sure there are a few more he is leaving out. He list's Pitt, West Virginia, Rutgers, St. John's, Maryland, Virginia, Drexel, South Carolina, and Houston with not leader at the moment.

We also caught up with Christian Watford today and although he says he is still wide open he list's 5 schools at the top which are Louisville, Memphis, UK, Alabama, and Indiana.
