2010 Pangos Dream Classic Recap
This year’s Pangos Dream Classic was a 1 day event that was loaded with very good teams and extremely talented prospects. “There were some very important must see matchups that a lot of people have been waiting for” said Dinos Trigonis event Director. The 2pm game was Etiwanda vs Compton Centennial. This was an evenly matched game on paper and it turned out to be a very evenly matched game on the court but Compton Centennial led by Deonte Burton’s 20 pts pulled out a close one 58-52. Bryon Wesely had a good showing for Etiwanda scoring 17 pts. The 3:30pm game featured 2 perennial powers St John Bosco out of Belflower vs Compton Dominguez. Like the first game, this one was evenly matched on paper and on the court St John Bosco played very well as a team and they were able to hold on to a 9 pt victory 51-42. Compton Dominguez’s Anthony Scott scored a game high 19 pts. The 5pm game featured Long Beach Cabrillo vs Paramont. Both games before this one were close games but not as close as this one, both teams scratched, clawed and scraped the whole way through going into overtime but in the end it was too much Chris Verdugo 14 pts and Tony Bell 13 pts as Long Beach Cabrillo pulls out a nail bitter in overtime 67-63. The 6:30pm game was an absolute battle. Los Angeles Price who’s loaded with some pretty good talent faced off against Garh out of Cerritos. The game was close throughout the first half and into the middle of the third that’s when Price began to pull away little by little and maintained a comfortable 8-10 pt lead the rest of the way as Price went on to 77-65 victory. Allen Crabbe and Richard Solomon combined for %70 of Price’s points, Crabbe had a spectacular game scoring 34 pts and grabbing 9 rebs. Richard Solomon also had a great game for Price scoring 22 pts and grabbing 9 boards. Ervin Ware led Gahr with 16 pts and 9 assist. The 8pm game featured Ocean View (Huntington Beach) vs La Verne Lutheran (La Verne). Going in to the game Ocean View was slightly favored while La Verne Lutheran were heavily depending on CJ Cooper and Bruce English to help pull off the upset. La Verne Lutheran fought hard but in the end the Anthony Brown and Avery Johnson were too much for CJ Cooper, Bruce English and La Verne Lutheran as Ocean View went on to a convincing 81-69 victory. Ocean View’s Anthony Brown had a game high 32 pts and Avery Johnson had a big night as well scoring 27 pts. La Verne Lutheran’s CJ Cooper had a big night scoring 29 pts and Bruce English contributed a very solid 19 pts. “This was a very impressive event” said event Director Dinos Trigonis “There were some very good teams and very good prospects that were on the floor today". While Anthony Brown, CJ Cooper and Avery Johnson all had stellar performances it was Los Angeles Price H.S. Allen Crabbe who walked away with the www.hoopsreport.com’s 2010 Pangos Dream Classic MVP. Crabbe was phenomenal scoring from all angles and rebounding with aggression. Obviously Crabbe is a high major prospect and he should be a definate contributor next fall for the Cal Berkley Bears.
