By: Jeff Meadows
Leading his team to a 17-1 record thus far this season and a huge 71-58 win last night over #5 Diego St. (who happens to be fully loaded) his stats read: 43pts & 4 rebounds, Jimmer Fredette earns Hoops Report's National Player of the Week honors. Fredette, a 6-2 SR (CG) is the nation’s top scorer & has been throughout the season. Fredette has had big games of 32, 33, 34, 39, 42, 47 & 43pts (last night) this season. Fredette is a savvy (CG) who knows how to get his shot whether it be with multiple defenders running at him or creating just enough space between himself and the defender to get his shot off. Fredette is also a sure shot from the outside who literally has unlimited range off the dribble or standing still. Throughout his career at BYU, Fredette’s scoring average improved 6.4pts a game each season where Fredette averaged 7.0pts a game his freshman season, 16.2pts a game his sophomore season, 22.1pts a game his JR season & he’s currently averaging 26.7pts a game this, his SR season. Fredette put on a scoring clinic or exhibition if you will, all night long against San Diego St and with that performance, Fredette, has become a national Player of the Year candidate for sure. Fredette’s BYU squad is currently ranked #9 in the national AP and As march draws closer, expect big things from Fredette and his BYU squad down the stretch.
