Eloy Vargas Released from UF

By: Brett Blevins
As has been reported by our own Dustin Rumbaugh, Eloy Vargas visited Kentucky on Friday. This was an ominous sign, and now Vargas has been officially released from Florida.
Many believe that the 6'10 forward would not have been eligible for the Fall semester anyhow. This sentiment was echoed by Billy Donovan and his statements over the past week. Vargas had been plagued by ankle issues and academic problems throughout his 1-yr stint in Gainesville.
Vargas becomes the 11th player to transfer out of the program since the 03-04 season.
Vargas is an extremely long and mobile forward. He has a respectable jumper and is a tremendous shot blocker. A year off to add some strength and focus academically will be good for the young man.
This past season at Florida, Vargas saw action in 9 games never playing more than 11 minutes. He is originally from the Dominican Republic and was recruited by John Calipari and Orlando Antigua during their time at Memphis.
