Dwight Hardy earns Hoops Report’s National Player of the Week.

By: Jeff Meadows
In a conference like the Big East (In the toughest conference in college basketball) every game is a big game and the difference between a team making the NCAA tournament is usually a couple of baskets and having said that, every possession counts and St. John’s 6’2 Sr. (G) Dwight Hardy plays like it. Dwight Hardy has shown all season long why he’s among the nation’s best/top scorers. Against DePaul, Hardy was a sharp shooter, scoring 21 points (8-13 from the field) and 1-3 (from behind the arc) and against conference rival Villanova, Hardy flat out lit it up scoring 34 points (9-16 from the field) and 5-9 (from behind the arc). St. Johns is currently on a 7 game winning streak and with big wins this season over Duke, Villanova, Georgetown & Pittsburgh, St. John’s has really shaken things up in the Big East. Hardy is a New York city native hailing from the Bronx, Dwight did not play his freshman or sophomore season, Dwight’s junior season he averaged 10.5 points and 2 rebounds and this his senior season, Dwight is currently averaging 17.9 points 3.1 rebounds and 2 assist. Going into the preseason, St. John’s was given only an outside chance at making the NIT; now the Red Storm has high hopes of making the NCAA tournament. This St. John’s team is very young, athletic and fiery and by the looks of things, I would not want to see them in March. With Dwight’s Sr. leadership and scoring abilities, don’t be surprised if St. John’s makes the NCAA tournament and show well and if for some reason things don’t continue to unfold for the Red Storm in winning fashion, Hoops Report would like to say congratulations to Dwight Hardy and the rest of his Red Storm team for a memorable season and good luck in the NIT.
